Training & Retreats

These programs are designed to provide interested physicians, psychologists, therapists, nurses, chaplains, and other healthcare professionals with principles and procedures of ketamine-assisted psychotherapy in a clinical setting.

COURSE DESCRIPTION

In this module, we focus on the specifics of working with non-ordinary states of consciousness in psychotherapy, and the importance of self-care, processing material post-session, and preparation strategies for psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy sessions to prevent countertransference stress and burnout. We integrate diverse clinical theories, traditions, and philosophies on therapist self-care, offering participants an increasingly wide-angle lens on the evolving field of psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy and grounding it in clinical wisdom. We give attention to understanding vicarious traumatization, burnout, compassion fatigue, and secondary post-traumatic stress. Teachings are appropriate for healthcare professionals as well as the general public. Healthcare professionals will be able to incorporate the tools and practices offered in this program in ways beneficial to clients or patients. We include a combination of presentations for a total of six continuing education credits and participation in two hours of self-care activities that will not earn continuing education credits.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

After completing this course, participants will be able to:

  1. List two grounding techniques to use before and during work with clients in NOSC
  2. Explain the importance of healer self-care to prevent secondary/provider PTSD burnout, compassion fatigue
  3. Discuss two ways in which good self-care is essential for prevention of boundary violations
  4. List two ways in which unconscious themes/shadow material can interfere with therapists’ ability to be present for their clients
  5. List five dimensions of self-care to prevent burnout and vicarious traumatization
  6. Describe one somatic technique that can be used for working with grief

Through his commitment to his own Wounded Healer’s journey, he shares with his clients and students his deep understanding of what it is to be human and to find your own personal myth or soul’s purpose. His calling is to help people find their soul’s purpose in collaboration with his wife Cathy Skipper through AromaGnosis. Aromatics in the form of essential oils can be powerful allies to heal the relationship between the different parts of yourself, so that these parts cooperate instead of clashing. In their unique, unparalleled approach, they work in partnership with aromas – the expressions of the plants’ souls.

Cathy Skipper began her career in the healing arts. She trained at The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama where she acquired a B’ED Hons in Drama, Applied Theater and Education. She worked in schools and social settings using drama as the medium for healing. Cathy moved to rural France in her mid-twenties and learnt to live in nature, traveling with a horse and cart and living off the land. In 2003, she settled in the South-East of France farming blueberries, medicinal plants and making organic wine. At the same time, she took the three-year herbal diploma at Ecole Lyonnaise de Plantes Medicinales, the largest herbal school in Europe. She went on to teach field botany, practical herbalism, healing the healer and aromatherapy at the school as well as co-authoring the aromatherapy book, Aromatic Medicine with the school’s founder and director Patrice de Bonneval.
